Photography of Melissa Schilling
If her life were a board game, it would be called Culinary Pursuit. Melissa Schilling developed an early passion for food and wine from her Italian grandfather – eating after school snacks of cod and crackers while other children enjoyed cookies and milk. The cod prepared her well for a cooking school stint in the Basque Country of Spain. Earning her Master of Science degree in Agriculture, from Cal Poly, cemented her love of terroir, microclimates, heirloom vegetables and CHEESE! Today, Melissa teaches cheese and wine classes to adults and art cooking fusion classes to school children.
Somewhere along the way, Melissa picked up an old school film SLR camera. She began documenting her family and her students every move. She recently shot her 10,000th photograph and has expanded into the photo nerd world of lomography. You can find her and her rainbow flash Holga, in broad daylight capturing the obscure and the memorable.
Melissa is also working on a Culinary Roadtrip Cookbook (sipsnapsavor.net). She teaches consumable art classes through her consulting business, Praise Cheeses (praisecheeses.net)
